The Moby Story

Moby was born out of resilience, passion, and a love for technology. After a motorcycle accident left founder and CTO, Nick Brewer, sidelined for a year, he found himself at a crossroads when returning to work was no longer an option. Faced with a choice between launching a food truck or a technology company, Nick followed his passion and set out to build something that would have a long-lasting impact.

But starting a telecom isn’t easy — and it’s not a solo mission. To turn vision into reality, Nick teamed up with Boaz Shilmover (President and CEO) and Stewart Cummings (VP Infrastructure) and later Tobe Nzewi (COO). Together, they set out to challenge the status quo and bring Canadian residents and businesses a better, faster, and more affordable choice in Internet, TV, and Voice services.

Moby was born — with a clear vision: To provide blazing-fast Internet, TV, and Voice services at a fair price, all backed by exceptional local customer service.

Today we’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing telecom providers for residential and business in Calgary, Edmonton, and Nationwide.

The story behind the name

The name “Moby” was inspired by a simple kitchen-table conversation with Founder Nick’s son about Moby Dick. The name made people smile — and it stuck. Today, the whale symbolizes more than a brand. It represents Moby’s role as a small but mighty challenger swimming upstream in a sea of telecom giants.
